TRI-STATE DIVING’S Commercial & salvage diving
Tri-State Diving, located in Detroit Lakes MN, has been in the commercial and salvage diving business in Minnesota and the Dakotas for over 35 year. Winters find us doing recoveries of vehicles, ATV’s snowmoibles, and fishhouses that have fallen through the ice.
We have worked on projects in large in ground tanks, sewage lagoons, storm sewers, lakes, rivers, dams, and ponds. We are equipped to do most types of underwater projects. We are set up for underwater cutting and we also have a hydraulic chain saw we use for cutting different types of material underwater including HDPE pipe, stumps, electric power line poles, and bridge pilings. We also carry an assortment of underwater pneumatic tools to aid in our ability to complete the job in a timely fashion. We have two gas chain saws and a hydraulic chain saw that are equipped with 36″ bars which enables us to cut ice up to three feet thick.

Tri-State Diving’s crew has recovered vehicles, a semi-tractor trailer, an excavator, a motor home, eleven enclosed racing snowmobile trailers, fish houses, ATV’s, and snowmobiles that have fallen through the ice as well as watercraft, outboard motors, construction equipment and vehicles in the summer. Our salvage recovery operations have taken us as far north as the Canadian border and we also have recovered vehicles that have fallen through the ice throughout the Dakotas.
Tri-State Diving has a patent on an apparatus for recovering vehicles that fall through the ice, called the SUVE (Submerged Underwater Vehicle Extractor) and we were featured with Mike Rowe on the Discovery Channel Dirty Jobs show doing a vehicle recovery. Using the SUVE the crew can make an average recovery under normal circumstances in three to four hours. We use a different apparatus for recovering ATV’s and snowmobiles and normal recovery time for these is one to two hours. We will work directly with your insurance company for the removal of your property. We will assist you in working with your insurance company, if you only carry liability insurance, to have them cover the cost for removal. We pride ourselves in doing none or very little damage to the item we are recovering.
